The Daily Double Epilogue
Kitty explains how Coco, the junior G.R.O.U.T. henchwoman, was foiled:

"You will remember how you failed to bribe Sam the bugler and Willy the truck driver. Both men are too loyal to Teabiscuit to ever do anything to upset him, even for a joke--or a bribe. It also helps that they are auxilliary agents of T.I.L.E. And it was Teabiscuit himself who sensed something was wrong with the hay you tried to feed him, and your disguise didn't fool him for a minute. He alerted Manny, the groom, about both deceptions, Manny tested the hay with his T.I.L.E. field kit and then the hunt was on in earnest. Manny got word to Tony Cordoba, the jockey, so both he and Teabiscuit were on the alert. After the race, they and the others put me on your trail. It was teamwork of the highest degree, and with that kind of help it was a simple matter to track you down and catch you. You hadn't a chance, pet."

"But how, you wonder, did Rule the World manage to lose the race after you injected her with the serum? Well, pet, that was a masterful bit of work that Teabiscuit managed all by himself. Tony the jockey told me that Teabiscuit had had his eye on Rule the World ever since they were exercising in the paddock. Rule the World seemed so jittery, very unlike her usual sweet-tempered self. When the horses were lining up at the starting gate, Teabiscuit made sure he was situated next to Rule the World, following her and whinnying softly to her the entire time. Then of course, the race was on, and though Rule the World pulled ahead fast, she ended up coming in a respectable fourth place, which Tony judges proper given her talent; the G.R.O.U.T. trainers purposely under-trained Rule the World so she would be a long shot in the race and would make a lot of money for G.R.O.U.T. when she won the race dishonestly.

"Tony then put two and two together: Teabiscuit had realized that Rule the World had been drugged to win, and he appealed to her higher instincts. Teabiscuit's attitude wasn't a chiding one; he was obviously attracted to Rule the World and even seemed to feel sorry for her. Teabiscuit persuaded Rule the World to run her usual race, to perform honorably like the professional athlete she was and not to be seduced by G.R.O.U.T.'s empty promises of fame and luxury."

"After Rule the World's change of heart on that racetrack today, another wonderful thing happened: Teabiscuit fell in love with her, and she with him. My father, publishing giant Arthur du Mont, was so delighted when he heard about the romance and Rule the World's marvellous show of sportsmanship that he immediately cabled orders to buy Rule the World. So you see, pet, your friends at G.R.O.U.T. managed to make a bit of money out of this race after all, though I'm quite afraid they owe much more in fines to the Racing Commission for "doping" a horse."
"All in all, it was a small price to pay. Teabiscuit helped make an honest filly out of Rule the World and she will get the proper training to become the champion she truly is. Best of all, these lovebirds will now be together always!"
