Soon after the incident with Willy and the horse truck, we find Kitty--if it is Kitty--skulking around Teabiscuit's stable. What is she up to now? |
| Kitty spots Teabiscuit with Manny the groom. Manny and Teabiscuit have always had a special bond, and it has been even stronger since Teabiscuit saved Manny's life in a stable fire a few months ago. Kitty approaches them with a cheerful greeting. She sweetly tempts Teabiscuit with some "supervitamin-fortified hay" that she brought with her to help him prepare for the race. Yet Teabiscuit refuses the hay and generally seems stand-offish toward Kitty, which is very odd because she is one of his favorite people. Kitty quickly becomes impatient with Teabiscuit, thrusts the hay into Manny's hand, and testily says, "Maybe you can get this finicky creature to eat it, you're such chums." With that, she stalks off toward the clubhouse. Manny protests, "Say, Miss du Mont, if he doesn't want it, he shouldn't eat it..." but his words hang unheeded in the humid June air. | ![]() |
![]() | Teabiscuit: "Neee-eeigh!" Manny: "Yeah, Miss du Mont sure is acting funny today. Well, we're all nervous before the big race, I guess." Teabuiscuit: "Neeigh! Nee-eeigh!" Manny: "What's that, boy? There's something wrong with the hay? You must be kidding!" Teabiscuit: (shaking his head) "Phhhhft!" Manny: "Well, OK, let's see...good thing I've got my T.I.L.E. field kit on me so I can analyze it. Say, you're right, boy! This hay is laced with a sleeping drug! What the--?!" | ![]() |
