The Daily Double Part 2
It looks like Kitty is coming out to check on the truck that is about to bring Teabiscuit into the Belmont stables. She certainly is walking stealthily...perhaps she wishes to surprise Willy, the driver, and ride in with him. Willy is a longtime employee of the du Mont family who likes to joke about being Teabiscuit's "personal chauffeur" because he is the only person charged with transporting the prize stallion. He is also fond of Kitty, so he would probably be delighted to indulge her.
Kitty is offering Willy "a little salary bonus" if he agrees to drive the truck over the curb, stop short, and generally "shake things up" for Teabiscuit. Willy is taken aback and says surely the young miss doesn't want him to rough-house like that. Kitty insists it is all in good fun and that it will be just the thing to get Teabiscuit "revved up" for the race.

Willy gently but firmly points out that a sensitive horse like Teabiscuit cannot be jostled about just before a race. He shyly admits that sometimes he almost believes Teabiscuit is meditating back in that trailer, like he wants to get his mental energy up for a race. But anyway, Willy knows that shaking up is no good for a horse. He declines the offer and Kitty stalks off, leaving Willy to shake his head in bafflement, afraid to confront the strange doubt that is creeping up from the back of his mind.

Why would Kitty want to do such a thing to the beloved Teabiscuit? How could she forget that Teabiscuit needs a peaceful, gentle ride to the track before a race? Why would she try to bribe honest old Willy? Could it be that THIS IS NOT REALLY KITTY??
